Thomas Benton Corbin, Jr., 67, passed from this life to the next, peacefully, on August 12, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 am, at Oak Street Baptist Church with interment in Mountain Top Family Cemetery.
He was born August 4, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to Mary Ruth Grantham Corbin and Thomas Benton Corbin, Sr. Raised in Graham, this great-great grandson of Young County pioneer, John Allen Driver, spent many evenings at the knee of his great grandfather, Henry Driver, listening to stories of Indian raids and the early day tales of Young County settlers.
Tommy, a brilliant practical joker, had a love for life and a passion for music. He played trumpet for the Graham High School band and the early day GHS jazz stage band. He was also the drum major at GHS. He graduated Graham High School in 1965 and attended Ranger College and Abilene Christian College. He loved sports, particularly baseball and football, and could quote a multitude of stats. He coached many little league baseball teams in Graham and Olney. Tom began working in 1960 at the very early age of 13 at Graham Ice and Locker in order to help out his family, and worked there almost 40 years. He is also the former owner of Corbin and Sons Ice Company.
Tommy's main passion was his family. He married Jerri Ruth Long in Graham on March 15, 1968. They have two sons, Thomas Brent Corbin and Ty Scotty Corbin. The last several years Tom enjoyed assisting his wife, Jerri, Director of the Olney Senior Center, with the many functions at the Center, where he was always willing to fill in where needed.
He loved traveling and gathering with family and friends. Tommy was a loving, protective big brother, "Bubba", to his sisters, "the girls", and watched over them his entire life.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ruth Corbin Black,father, Thomas Corbin and half-brothers, Timothy, Stephen and Kevin Corbin. He is also preceded in death by special friends, Amy Murray Hafley and husband, Jerry of Wichita Falls.
Survivors are: Wife, Jerri; Children, Thomas and Cassidy Corbin of Oklahoma City, Ty Corbin, Graham, and Lorrie Corbin Bamford of OKC; Father, James Black, Graham; Grandchildren, Aaron, Sarah and Bryson Corbin, Madison Berns, Hannah Abbott, Casey Carrion and Bailey Merrifield; Sisters, Linda Corbin Pippin and husband Ronnie, of Graham, Becky Corbin Ribble and husband Sammy, of Graham, Susan Black Blackmon and husband Jerrell, of Graham, Jaime Black Hood and husband, Dale, of Graham and brother,Tony Black and wife, Ruthlynn, of Magnolia; he is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and many cousins in the Graham area and a very special first cousin, Mike Powell, who was like a brother to him.
A family visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home.
