Vanetta Joyce Odom

Vanetta Joyce Odom, 73, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009 in Midlothian, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Gathings of Sanger, Texas officiating. Burial will follow at Gooseneck Cemetery in Young, County, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Joyce was born January 29, 1936 in South Bend, Texas to the late James Allen and Lillian (Pinkston) Gathings, Sr. Joyce was a military wife for 25 years and worked for Haverty Funiture for over 15 years as office manager in their Duncanville store, Duncanville, Texas. She was a member of Calvary Baptist, Church, Midlothian, Texas.

Survivors: sisters, Jo Ann Speck, Waxahachie, Lawanda Baugus, Midlothian, brother, Rev. Bill Gathings, Sanger, grandchildren, Holley Ives, Waco, Amy Pearson, Waco, Anisa Leigh Odom, Midlothian, and Jase Allen Odom, Midlothian, step-grandson, William Varisa, Idaho, great grandchildren, Tristian, Teagan, Gunner, Carrie, Cadence, step-great grandchild, Destiny, several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by husbands, Joe Vern Pearson and Earl Simms Odom, sons, Jerry Dewayne Pearson and Steven Wendell Odom, sisters, Lola Marie Washburn, Dorothy Irene Baker, brother, James Allen Gathings, Jr.
