Verna Thetford

Verna Francis Coley Thetford passed away peacefully in Granbury, Sunday, January 14, 2024. Graveside service will be Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Cottonwood Cemetery near Bryson under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Verna was born March 14, 1931, to the late Hugh T. Coley and Emma Vanhooser Coley. She graduated from Bryson High School in 1948, and from North Texas State College in 1952. She taught business classes in high school for several years where she proudly sponsored many students at state competitions in shorthand and typing.

On December 31, 1954, she married L. D. Thetford. For many years they owned a construction business and a cattle operation. Verna enjoyed her cattle, flowers, gardening and playing the piano. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Graham.

Survivors include brother, James Sylvester Coley; several nieces and nephews; and step-grandchildren.

Verna was predeceased by her parents; husband; brother, Ralph W. Coley; and step-son, Larry Thetford.
