Vernon Henry Gosnell, 82, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 in Wichita Falls. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with John McClosky of Wichita Falls officiating. Burial will follow in South Prairie Cemetery in Stephens County under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Vernon was born on March 29, 1926 in Ringold, Texas to the late Jessie and Mamie (Cantrell) Gosnell. He married Gloria Jean Cray on December 28, 1959 in Altadena, California. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2006. Vernon was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a retired Graham Police Officer, a Palo Pinto County Sheriff Deputy, a Country Musician, worked for the U.S. Postal Service, and owner and operator of a Country Store and Station in Ivan.
Survivors include: three daughters, Donna Gosnell of Arlington, Dolly Gosnell and fiancé Tony Russell of Graham, and Susan Hitt and husband Terry of Wichita Falls; son, Eric Gosnell of McAlester, Oklahoma; brothers, Troy and Terry Gosnell of Cisco; grandchildren, Bambi Shelnutt and husband Gabriel, Travis Metzger and wife Kayla, Justice Hayes, and Alex Metzger; great grandchildren, Constance and Mercy Shelnutt.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
