Vernon L. Hamm

Vernon L. Hamm, 83, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2010 in Graham. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Jean Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Vernon was born on December 8, 1926 in Jean to the late Mont Exton and Clara (Slater) Hamm. He married Marilyn Helmle and she preceded him in death in 1975. He married LaVay Buffington on February 5, 1976 in Artesia, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2008. Vernon was a veteran of the United States Navy and Air Force. He retired from the Air Force and as a Federal Aviation Association Air Traffic Controller.

Survivors include: daughter, Gaye Layland of Graham; son, Steve Bernhardt and wife, Diann of Iowa Park; 3 grandchildren, Richard, Steven, and Arthur Bernhardt; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Anne Pope of Richland Hills; best friends, Hugh and Betty Grubbs.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Norman Hamm.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
