Walter Harrell Braddock, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2024, in Graham, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on February 5, 1937, in South Bend, Texas, Harrell was the cherished son of the late Christine (Harrell) Braddock and Lester E. Braddock.
On June 15, 1957, Harrell married the love of his life, Mary Cole, in Graham, Texas. Their 67 years of marriage were a testament to their deep love, faith, and commitment to one another. Together, they built a family rooted in their Christian faith creating countless cherished memories over the years.
A lifetime resident of Graham, Harrell dedicated his career to operating Amsco Hydraulic Casing Pulling, a business he co-owned and operated for 56 years. Known for his tireless work ethic and dedication, Harrell’s commitment to his work and community left an indelible mark on those around him.
Harrell was a devout member of the First United Methodist Church, where his Christian faith shone brightly. He was a daily reader of the Bible and praised the Lord every day, embodying the qualities of a gentle, thoughtful, and loving servant of God. His unwavering kindness, quick wit, and thoughtful spirit made him a role model to many, offering wisdom, strength, and unconditional love to all who knew him.
Family was the cornerstone of Harrell’s life. He found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones, whether at Possum Kingdom Lake, Destin, Florida, Ruidoso, New Mexico, or South Padre Island. He also shared his passion for travel with his wife Mary, exploring the world together and creating treasured memories along the way.
Harrell’s legacy is one of love, devotion, and strength. He is remembered by his family as a man who was loving, caring, non-judgmental, funny, and strong-willed—a blessing to many. His life was a testament to faith, family, and hard work, inspiring all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Harrell is survived by his wife, Mary Braddock; his sons, Harrell Braddock, Jr. and wife Jan of Olney, and Mike Braddock and wife Patricia of Graham; his daughters, Julie Scandridge and husband Stuart of Houston, and Kelly Wilson and husband Donny of Dallas; 16 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. Harrell was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
The family takes comfort in knowing that Harrell is now in the presence of the Lord, whom he so faithfully served throughout his life. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come.
A celebration of Harrell’s life will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2024 at First United Methodist Church, where family and friends will gather to honor a life well-lived. Burial will be earlier at South Bend Cemetery in Young County.
