Wanda Yvonne Vanhooser George, 78, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014 in Wichita Falls. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Wanda was born on November 8, 1935 in Graham. She was preceded in death by her parents Johnny and Helen Vanhooser, son, Johnny George, and a grandson, Jason Rivas. She was active in the Democratic Party for many years and once worked for Congressman Jack Hightower, Democrat from Memphis, Texas and, later Austin, Texas. She was also active in many civic groups and had a great love for all sports. She especially loved football, Rider High School and the Dallas Cowboys being her favorites.

She belonged to the Cornerstone Baptist Church, the Golden Girls and the Red Hatters. She was also a Rainbow Girl and an Eastern Star. She belonged to First Baptist Church of Graham for 13 years (1942-1955). She had many wonderful friends, some from her first grade class. Bobbie Ligon and Gwendene Dyrud were some of her longtime friends. They were always there for her.

She had a great love of God, who saw her through her fight with cancer. She is survived by daughters, Melodie Menasco and husband, John , Sandra George, and Ronda Hall all of Wichita Falls; grandson, Chris Rivas; many friends of Wichita Falls and Graham, along with her very special friends Edna Coleman, Helen Morrow, Bea Welch and Lucy Brady who stood by her during her illness. Her friends and her faith in God have seen her through many hardships.
