Wayne Lee Ramsey

Our beloved husband, father, Pops, and friend, Wayne Lee Ramsey, age 71, died on Friday, September 6, 2024. 

He was born in Plainview, TX to the late Joe and Nita Ramsey. Wayne graduated from Plainview High School in 1971 before obtaining a degree in Agronomy from Texas Tech University in 1976 – or as Wayne would call it, “a degree in dirt.” Wayne married his high-school sweetheart, Leslie Bennett and wife of 45 years, on November 18, 1978. Together they built a life in Graham, TX with their three children, Joanie, Meredith, and Ben. Wayne later became the proud “Pops” to eight grandkids and thrived on spending time with them. His family was the center of his world and being a dad and Pops was his greatest joy. 

Wayne grew up working for his dad with the family crop spraying business. He farmed for several years in Plainview after graduating from tech. He then moved to Graham and became the owner of J Appleseed in 1990. As a good friend said, "Wayne kept Graham green."

He had so many wonderful friends and cherished each one of them deeply. He was known for his witty charm and infectious sense of humor. He always had a story or joke to tell. He was a character for sure, a man of strong character. 

Wayne’s faith in Jesus was a cornerstone of his life and he lived out his beliefs. He was an active member of Oak Street Baptist Church where he loved to teach Sunday School and attend mission trips to the Ukraine and Uganda. He loved his community and established the Pizza Ministry, the Bible Ministry, and The Rock where hundreds of high school students heard about the love and grace of Jesus. 

Wayne leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith that will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him. He will be missed, remembered and cherished in our hearts forever.

Wayne is survived by his siblings Gail Bryant, Scott Ramsey, Don Ramsey and their families; his wife Leslie Ramsey; his daughter Joanie Ownby, her husband Robert and their children Carter, Max and Chella; his daughter Meredith Atzenhoffer, her wife Dena and their children Emerson, Griffin, Barrett, and Kayce; and his son Ben Ramsey, his wife Kelly and their son Lee. 

Services will be held in Graham, Texas. Visitation is Thursday, September 12th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at The Rock. Gravesite burial is Friday, September 13th at 10:00am at Pioneer Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at Oak Street Baptist Church on Friday, September 13th at 11:00am.
