Wilma, a beloved Mama, Memaw, and friend, peacefully passed away on May 21, 2023, at the age of 82. She was born on March 13, 1941, in the close-knit Gannon Community of Nolan County, Texas. In August of 1949 or 1950, during a heartfelt service at Shiloh Baptist Church, Wilma found Jesus our Lord and Savior and was baptized the following Sunday alongside her cherished sister, Virginia (Ginny) Laurens. Throughout her life, her faith served as a guiding light.
Wilma led a life filled with remarkable accomplishments and meaningful contributions. In 1968, she and her husband Jimmy Sr. moved to San Angelo, where they established a loving home and raised their family. Wilma's entrepreneurial spirit led her to own a pie bakery for several years, supplying delectable desserts to restaurants like Dunbar East and grocery stores such as Harry's Food Mart. From 1978 to 2002, she owned and operated a successful beauty salon in the Lakeview community, affectionately known as "Wilma's Wigwam." Her skills and passion for beauty allowed her to positively impact the lives of her clients, who valued her talent and warmth. Even after retiring from the salon, Wilma continued to help others through her work at DNS Residential and SAISD transportation.
Wilma possessed an extraordinary singing voice that she dedicated to glorifying the Lord. Accompanied by the skillful keystrokes of Doris Cunningham, her resonant voice captivated congregations, lifting spirits, and inspiring all who had the privilege of listening. She found profound joy and solace within her Christian family.
As a devoted disciple of Jesus, Wilma actively participated in the church community, wholeheartedly serving in the children and bus ministries. Her witness and steadfast faith led many individuals, including her dear sister Sherron and brother-in-law Bob Coker, to find salvation and experience transformative changes in their lives. Praise the Lord!
